Festival of New Dance 2015, Sunrise Ceremony

The Festival of New Dance, presented annually, remains Neighbourhood Dance Works' signature event, showcasing some of the most sought after contemporary dance produced in Canada and providing main stage opportunities for local choreographers. The festival includes main stage performances, site-specific events, workshops, discussion forums, film screenings and art exhibitions. Our vision is to make a diverse program of dance available to our community, presenting work that appeals to a broad audience as well as work that challenges and inspires.

We believe in creating unique partnerships with other organizations. In the past partners have included: The Rooms (NL provincial art gallery and archives), the CanDance Network, Live Art Productions (Halifax), the Nickel Film Festival, the Society for Canadian Dance Studies, the Canadian Dance Assembly, A1C Gallery, Eastern Edge Gallery, Kittiwake Dance Theatre, and DanceNL (our provincial sector organization).

The impact of The Festival of New Dance regionally, nationally, and internationally is evident on many levels and reflected in the feedback we receive from artists, presenters, and audience members. Through an ongoing commitment to present local work in our festival, we foster the careers of local artists and nurture the artistic growth in our community. Connecting local dancers with artists from across the country the Festival of New Dance encourages further opportunities for artistic exchange and new development.
